Get the required test first
Before hiring anyone, ask the permitting authority whether it requires a traditional perc test, soil morphology evaluation, registered soil scientist, engineer, or another credential. Paying for the wrong test wastes money.
What may be included
Quotes may include field work, test pits/borings, soil descriptions, a site sketch, report preparation, and travel. Additional design or surveying is often separate.
What to verify locally
Permitting, inspection, setbacks, acceptable system types, professional licensing, and design requirements are controlled by state and local authorities. If your question affects construction, a property purchase, a repair, or drinking-water safety, confirm the answer with the local health/environmental department.
